Time to Rant!

Somehow I got on an email list for another "MMA" school located very close to ours. They just sent me their newsletter.
I don't mind that I am on their list. I keep an open mind but some parts of it just made me laugh!!!

Why does every grappling school think they can teach MMA????????

I love how these guys say they have the best instruction, best MMA training, etc.
Yet they have no striking experience!!!!!!!!!!
Their striking classes don't exist or consist of just hitting pads. It's a joke.
So when you are bored and surf the web looking at other local schools ask yourself: Can they teach MMA? A BJJ black belt does not mean you can win a fight. It means you are a good grappler. Last time I checked there were strikes allowed in MMA.

Also they have no fighters!! One school I know had 1 fighter compete under their name and he lost. Same with another "MMA" school out toward Surprise. (Their striking trainer list Capoiera as his style) They have no fighters because they can't teach real MMA. They are trying to cash in on $$$ and the popularity of MMA. So if you are reading this and "train" MMA ask yourself when was the last time someone hit you in the head. It doesn't have to be hard but it has to make contact. If you have to think about if for a second you are not training REAL MMA.

There are several other ways to see if they teach real MMA. Do they have MMA classes or just a bunch of BJJ/grappling classes? Do they stick in 1 or 2 striking classes a week just to make sure they can say striking?
Do they have MMA classes where they incorporate strikes with grappling?
Grappling and grappling with strikes are 2 different styles all together.

Sorry about the rant I just feel bad for students who are being taken advantage of by thinking they are training real MMA. I also don't like the fact that other schools try to market themselves as MMA when they aren't. I know it's just business but it fired me up this morning!

So go train!
